Why a maintenance program?

Institute of Inspection cleaning and restoration certification

Given the current conditions within the commercial carpet cleaning industry, this is probably the most important question you can ask. There are a multitude of different carpet cleaning methods available. Some work very well, and some don't work at all. Every manufacturer of carpet cleaning equipment, and every manufacturer of carpet cleaning chemicals offers some type of "expert training course." These "training courses" are usually free of charge, mainly because they are designed to sell chemicals and equipment rather than teach carpet cleaning techniques.

We have resisted the temptation of these "free of charge" carpet cleaning courses. Instead, we decided that every one of our carpet technicians would be just that, fully trained technicians. To accomplish this, we have every one of our technicians certified by the IICRC (International Institute of Carpet and Upholstery Cleaners.) They must go through rigorous training and then pass several tests to be certified. Training in the carpet cleaning industry is important because:

  • While carpet cleaning is certainly not rocket science, it is much more technical than regular janitorial duties. Many different chemicals are used, and the technicians must know which solutions to use on different carpet fibers. Carpet cleaning equipment needs special care and maintenance in order to perform adequately.
  • Mistakes in the carpet cleaning industry are not easily rectified. In fact, many mistakes are fixable only by replacing the carpet! Extensive training helps to avoid these mistakes.

"All technicians who perform carpet cleaning duties for Carpet Maintenance, Inc. are certified by the IICRC."
